Sliver Maple Leaf and Samaras

In my front yard, the silver maple tree (named so because its leaf undersides are silvery) is producing its end-of-summer seeds, samaras (also known as helicopters).

For the second time this year (first round in the spring), my house’s front gutters are full of helicopters.

I love that leaf! The helicopters are quite an ingenious way nature uses to procreate :)

That works really well, the selective focus on the leaf really drew my eye. End of summer is in sight.....

I like the use of depth of field

Excellent shot, love the way you have the leaf focused sharply. So glad you posted this, haven't seen a silver leaf maple in way too many years and forgot about the "helicopter" seeds. Have been in Texas 31 years and haven't seen them around where I live..

Really nice shot, to singel out that leaf makes it a very interesting image.

@koalagardens @cnic01 @mgmurray @grannysue @lenanau Thank you everyone for your kind words. I had taken several shots as I walked through a large number of brown and green helicopters on my front walkway before I saw this single leaf resting in the midst.

I like this composition, with the single leaf among the helicopters. At my house it seems there are 1,000 helicopters for every leaf!

@lsquared Thank you. All of their cousins are at my house. =)
