Bloodroot by denisedaly

Bloodroot

These flowers are named Bloodroot because Native Americans used their root for red dye. Bloodroot was used as a medicinal herb extensively by the Indian Medicine Men and Women in some North American tribes. It was also a ritual skin paint, or war paint, and used as dye by others. The red juice expressed from the root makes an excellent die for cloth, yarn, and many other materials and can be used as a wood stain.
These look great!

Gorgeous flowers - I often marvel at where the knowledge to use things like the colours in the roots of this plant, originates from I know many of these things are centuries old and have been passed down for many generations, but I marvel at the original ideas person.
