0715ducks

I wasn’t going to walk today because my head cold had me feeling like I could barely get out of bed. But mid-morning I felt well enough, I thought, to drag myself outside. I don't usually walk to this pond but when I do, I usually see ducks swimming around. This is the first time I've seen their nest. It was so peaceful, shady and relaxing. Made me think of my favorite poem...The Peace of Wild Things, by Wendell Berry. I have it on my refrigerator.

"When despair grows in me and I wake in the middle of the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water and the great heron feeds. I come in the Peace of wild things who do no tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting for their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free."

Thank you Wendell.
