Cornwall Park Auckland by dide

Cornwall Park Auckland

Had a great day out today with @julzmaioro, visiting 'the big smoke'. First stop just happened to be a camera gear shop…. We also visited some of the higher volcanic hills in Auckland. We stopped at Cornwall Park, just below One Tree Hill. I decided to use my wide angle lens (12-24mm). I was thrilled with the 'rounded' effect, until my learned friend suggested the effect was from the camera - just so, I had left half of the lens cover on…. Still, I think it's a great effect...
Haha Your Learned friend must be a bit of a smart..... Looks fantastic though... fav

Haha, love the story. So many mistakes we do and repeat. This is too gorgeous.

Ooh do tell, what did you buy...I'm sure neither of you came out if that shop without a little treat of some sort! Nice tree filling the circle.

I like the effect, too! Accident or not, it works.

Great framing of this view. Katharine

Who knew that half a lens cover could create such a unique vignetting effect! Turned out great. I'd had to remind myself that you're going into winter, otherwise I would've been concerned about the bare branches of this tree.

@happypat - we didn't really spend too much…(considering it was a camera shop!) I was after a monopod to use for taking sports photos with the large lens and I also wanted a ND grad filter for evening/morning low light landscapes. The monopod was on special, but unfortunately the filter wasn't! @julzmaioro was after a polarising filter. Always nice to have a look around camera shops.

@lyndemc Yep - we're into winter - so far not really that cold. The lens cover has the flat front that can be removed, but also, when using anything below about 15mm, the ring part needs to be removed too - it was this bit that I had accidentally left on, but it gave a nice effect.
