Out walking this evening up the hill at Mangawhai Surf beach - we came across this wee baby hedgehog scampering down the track towards us. He then decided that perhaps it would be best to head off the track into the scrub.
He really looks like he is breaking into a sprint... I saw one in my garden the other day ... first for a long time... but he scamered awaybefore I could get the camera..
Lovely capture in fine detail Dianne I didn't know you had them in NZ, they used to be in most hedgerows when I was a boy, Hedgehogs are struggling their numbers have fallen below one million in the UK – down by 30% in just over ten years, there are many wildlife trusts with campaigns to increase awareness and hedgehog numbers:)
Isn't he gorgeous ! love little " tiddlywinks " as a child would feed them dog food in the garden ,but sadly they do not venture very often to my garden now -- Alfie (terrier !!)seems to smell them from afar and is ready to hunt them !!

Cool shot Dianne
