More new livestock! by dide

More new livestock!

The little red hen has been busy again! These chicks (11 of them) hatched out yesterday. I didn't even realise that she was sitting on a clutch of eggs, as she had hidden them so well under the hedge. We caught them and put them into a cage, so the hawks cannot steal them.
They are so cute.

How wonderful to discover your flock has grown overnight. They look like a healthy bunch too. How did you keep the foxes away?
February 23rd, 2017
@golftragic lucky us - no foxes, only ferrets, stoats, weasels, rats and hawks!

@dide Gosh, you must've been lucky the Brits didn't bring any to NZ, wish they'd kept 'em away from here, and, of course, the thrice-cursed rabbits. Even so sounds like you've got enough predators to take care of anyway.
