Kakabeak by dide

Kakabeak

I planted a kakabeak shrub last year. It has heaps of flower growth and soon should be a blaze of colour. It is a threatened species in NZ and unless in a garden situation, it is eaten by pigs, goats, deer and hares. Very soon, I hope to have images of the bright red flowers which are shaped like NZ's native kaka - a parrot-like bird.
i have had a few in my garden, they seem shortlived, but very beautiful in flower.

@kali66 Yes, you are correct - they are short-lived, so I will make sure I enjoy this one when it flowers!

An interesting tryptich, and the voracious destroyers are all introduced species.

What an odd name but it sounds a plant well worth cultivating, hope we will see the results in due course!

Great triptych, look forward to seeing the flowers. Feral animals are darned nuisances and environmental hazards.
