When dad took over this bit of the farm (decades ago), it was a valley full of gorse and weeds. He worked hard to clear it so the dairy cows could graze it. We have now fenced off the stream and this is part of the planting. These flax and cabbage trees are about 4 years old. Today, when I was having a wander around, there were fantails flitting about. Very soon the tui will be visiting, as the flax flowers have heaps of nectar. That's our house on the hilltop - we have a lovely view of the native planting.
