On the way to New Plymouth with @julzmaioro we spotted this ram made from driftwood. On the return journey we stopped and photographed him. I have called him Cecil - the same name as the ram from a cartoonist (Murray Ball) who wrote 'Footrot Flats'. The cartoonist wrote about 35 books (compilations of his cartoons from various newspapers) depicting the trials of being a sheep farmer. Wal was the main character and had a dog called ‘Dog’. Cecil was an aged stud ram, who lacked the zest for doing the job he was supposed to do...
Wal was the Farmer .. the dog was 'Dog'... you were not paying attention with Footrot Flats... lol... He was a beauty 'Cecil' .. another work of art that I would like in my garden ..
@365karly1 yes - apparently the sheep farmer commissioned someone to make it. We were loitering around the farm entrance when a neighbour drove in and we had a lovely chat with her. She actually helps out in the garden around the homestead.
Oh yes, I well remember Cecil. I think I read every Footrot Flats cartoon ever published and have a blown-up version of one on my study wall featuring just Dog in the rain. Love this version of Cecil, how clever to make a ram out of driftwood. Love it.
