Mind your own beeswax! by dide

Mind your own beeswax!

Today was a bit rainy, so I decided to make some beeswax wraps. They are an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic cling wrap. I have been using one that I bought to take my sandwich to work and am impressed with how good they are. You grate the beeswax onto cotton fabric and then iron it between two pieces of baking paper. I have made some biggish ones and some sandwich size. Guess what my sisters will be getting for Christmas? I made 13 - the fabric was given to me and I used about $10 worth of beeswax. Lucky my time wasn't needing to be accounted for, as it took a while!
We have beehives about 200m away down the paddock - I had to shut the windows as one bee headed inside and was off back to tell his mates what he'd found...
Boo
oooh what a cool idea!

What a great idea. Hope your sisters don't read this or their Christmas presents won't be a surprise

@onewing I think only one of the four is currently following the project!

Very cleaver indeed Dianne environmentally friendly and not one bee injured in the production of a single sheet, thanks for sharing your technique with the 365 members:)

Now then, I'm impressed! I also use these, but I've never made them myself. I rarely use clingfilm these days, and I'm really happy about that. I must try making some. Lovely collage of your hard work.

Great collage

I also use these all the time instead of cling or tin foil. I've actually bought some more to "wrap" Christmas presents with. I didn't think of how easy it would be to make your own, guess what my next project is!

Wow this is a cool idea ! I have a lot beeswax blocks - I use to season my cast iron ( better than oil which can go rancid ) thanks for the project tip 😊

Great effort and a very thoughtful gift! My mother has been using them and loves them, and I did hear about them being sold here but I haven't yet seen them.

Great idea. Only take care that people who are allergic do not use it. I used to do it and there were problems!

These are wonderful. I bought one for my granddaughter a while back and if I was still working I would want to order one from you! Great collage to show these.

That is brilliant. How much beeswax for each 13” square?

@jgpittenger you just spread the grated wax over the cloth - like you would put grated cheese on a pizza. When it melts it spreads surprisingly far.

I have a birthday coming up too!
