Jesse was competing in a woodchopping event at Puhoi today. He had a great day and had lots of wins and placings in nearly all the events. Here he is competing in his favourite competition, 'the tree'. He is on the right and managed a win after starting 2 minutes behind the other competitor. The handicapping is a huge part of this sport and makes it a fairer competition.
What are they actually doing? Taking down the top part of the tree? I'm intrigued. Better not tell my hubby about this type of competition as he's taken rather a liking to chopping wood since we got home. All the trees we had taken down recently have been chopped for future firewood - he's out there every day. Says it's very satisfying. However, fear not, he could not compete with your boys in the photo. It looks very physical! This is a super shot of your son and the competition!
@jamibann yes - they are replicating what original pioneers had to do while working in the forest. They go up on three boards on one side to cut a scarf, then come down and put in three boards to go up the other side before felling the ‘tree’.
