Gannets early morning by dide

Gannets early morning

The other morning, I was at the gannet colony way before light. It was really cool just being there hearing them chattering amongst themselves. I was hoping for some nice light, but it was very misty and almost raining, so this is the wider view in those conditions. A bit of a failure, as the sunset the night before didn't happen either...
Lovely moody image, beautifully captured and framed Dianne:)

Wow so many gannets in one place. It must be breeding season.

The bird colony is great, but I love the capes jutting into the water, just beautiful.

What a wonderful view!

@onewing this is the uncrowded version. By September/October there will be no gaps on the cliff top nesting area.

Magic landscape. Is Cape Kidnappers near there?

This is muriwai, west coast NW of Auckland. Cape Kidnappers is the other colony on north island east coast further south in Hawke Bay. @golftragic

@dide Ahhh, thanks. The coastline looks very similar. We played Kidnappers when we were in NZ some years back and it poured rain for the whole 18 holes. Oh joy, oh happiness. My thumbnail photo was taken there as I walked out on a headland to a tee we couldn't even see.

@golftragic Cool to think your thumbnail image is from lil' old NZ - sorry about the rain!

@dide So was I!!! It was the only wet day we had in the whole fortnight and we'd been so looking forward to playing Kidnappers. We love NZ (to visit!!) and will, with luck, be back once this nightmare has eased off.

@golftragic cool - @julzmaioro and I were discussing how it would be great if you two came to visit (and stay!)

@dide We'd love to once this s--t is all over. Nothing beats seeing new places with locals.
