Waikino

This is part of a small memorial wall in Waikino. The Ohinemuri River, which runs through the Karangahake Gorge, flooded in 1981. It washed away all the houses in the tiny settlement of Waikino, and all that could be salvaged was the old pub and the small community hall. I don't think any lives were lost.
