I was inside today when there was a huge bang. I went out to find a kōtare (kingfisher) had crashed into the window and landed on the deck. (Can't imagine why it couldn't see the window as they are so grubby!)
Anyway, I thought the poor thing was dead and wouldn't be able to survive that huge crash. After a while it began to wriggle, so I sat it onto the edge of a pot. Poor little guy sat there for an hour, resting his beak on a bit of old plant. He eventually flew away, probably with the most enormous headache he has ever had...
Oh dear, we have had a few birds fly into our family room windows and glass sliding doors. Maybe he could see his reflection and thought it was either a threat or a potential mate.
