Just on dark last night, my little niece and I were out exploring at Ambury Regional Park. We were looking for the peacock that was calling from high in a tree. As the sun set, I loved the look of all the tiny shelters around the newly planted trees. The covers will keep the rabbits and hares from munching the plants and shelter them from the hot sun and dry winds when summer arrives.
When I first saw the thumbnail I too thought it was a graveyard but actually, it turns out to be a nursery. They seem to be awfully close together. Will they be transplanted as soon as they achieve a decent size.
@gardencat yes, they are purposely planted close together. They are pioneer plants, put in to establish the habitat and food for birds. Later, the bigger canopy trees will be interspersed amongst them. This shot will be a record of planting time and growth rate as we visit this park in years to come.
