Ten years ago, in New Zealand, legislation was passed that by December 2022, caged hens would be illegal for egg production for supermarket sales. So now, hens have to be 'colony' hens in groups of 60 with more room, or 'free range' hens. This has brought about some issues - along with increased chicken food prices and about 650,000 less hens to produce eggs, the price has increased and availability of eggs has decreased.... My point is... we have our own hens and all five of them are producing an egg a day.
A lovely collage of your egg laying friends. So good a country has made caged hens be illegal, but I am vexed at the issues it has brought! How lucky you are of your your little hen family,
Tjank you for your comments on my cooking.I wish now I did more cooking when Ethel was alive, I do enjoy it , I think she is looking over my shoulder and helping me along.I have taken up sequence dancing again, I meet up with friends , learn new dances, it has helped me a lot, although the empty chair is still there.
I've seen some supermarkets with no eggs at all! Crazy!
We have six hens at home and they are excellent layers as well. Such lovely eggs. Far more than we can eat, but the family are pretty happy!
