If you are a chocolate lover then you will know the name Hershey and MARS. I included a small collage of the two famous chocolate makers in the USA, and I'm sure they are favored all around the world. I work in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where the MARS factory is located, and I live only about 15 minutes from the famous Hershey's Chocolate Factory, Hershey, Pennsylvania, also known as Chocolate Town US. Unfortunately, Hershey Chocolate Factory has been going through many changes and it is feared that eventually this famous factory will close. There has been talk recently about moving its operations out of the area to a place like Mexico or some other area, possibly out of the States. It has been a famous landmark for years. Change like this is so sad.
It will be just completely AWFUL if "they" let Hershey's move anywhere from where it is now -- I mean "What could they be thinking".
I did not know that the MARS factor was located in Elizabethtown. Many years ago my son took a class to get certified as a diver; the testing was done at an old deep gravel pit near Elizabeth town.
Sad indeed. There used to be a much smaller Hershey factory in Oakdale, California, but last I heard a few years back it was shutting down. Keeping my fingers crossed they stick around. Just wouldn't feel right to flip over my peanut butter cups and see Hecho en Mexico on the back.
I L-O-V-E chocolate.. I don't know if I could handle living so close to the smell, I would be eating it constantly. That would be sad if they moved it out of the country, we need these jobs in the US that's for sure!!
Hersheys just wouldn't be Hersheys if they moved ops to Mexico or anywhere else for that matter...just let the 365 crowd know if this looks like it is going to happen and we will rally round the world to stop it (I hope.) Seriously, I always went through York on my way to Buffalo to visit family and many a time stopped here with my boys to break up our long trip. Sure hope they reconsider any moves.
"Chocolate Hershey de Mexico" just doesn't have the same ring... Some things need the "Made in the USA" label, and in this case, "Hershey, PA"! It would be a sad loss...thanks for sharing pictures of the birthplace of some of my favorite food!
I LOVE chocolate! I'm always surprised when someone doesn't. How sad that the plant might close. That's just not right! I guess I'll have to hurry up and come for a visit!
Great pictures/collage though :)
