As I was leaving work today this guy caught my eye. I stopped by the aquarium and everywhere I moved he followed, so I decided to take his photo. Wasn't sure how it would turn out. Many of our visitors stop by the aquarium to watch the fish, and they also stop by the many aviaries that we have located throughout our retirement community to visit with the different birds we have. On the two neighborhoods that I manage, we have three cats, a dog and two love birds. The residents love the animals, and it is so neat to watch our residents interact with them. The cats are often found lying in bed with a resident, and our dog will often sneak out into the dining room where she will sit next to a willing resident who unselfishly shares a piece of their meal. Once a week when we clean our aviary, the cats are closed off in a room and the lovebirds are free to fly around the neighborhood. They were hand raised so they are tame. When they are free they can be found anywhere. There favorite spot is on my head, and the residents laugh hysterically. I go right along with it and we have a blast. I wish I could take you on a virtual tour of my two neighborhoods so you could see how pleasant it truly is.
My staff kid me and say they are attracted to my bald head. It must be true, because as soon as I walk onto the neighborhood my head is their landing pad.
Great pic,love the vibrant colours!
That so great that you are allowed to have the animals there for the residents, they must get so much enjoyment from them.
Great pic! Love the colors. I think animals can give us so much. No matter if you miss a body part, if you're old, sick, can't remember your own name.... when humans judge, are uncomfortable, don't know how to act, animals will simply be there, as long as you are nice to them :)
Nice picture Rick. Like the color. I had to re-read the last part of your captions. I thought is said your favorite spot was on your head, but you were talking about the birds on your head.
Re - No Rick, autistic kids have different tastes and fascinations. Pedro love's cars, so he hangs out with a complete album of photos of everybody cars and the candy, well he loves the tube, not the mm's.
Rick-I wish every retirement community could have you on their staff. Your natural enthusiasm and honest respect for the residents is so refreshing. I'm sure you make a difference in their quality of life.
Love the vivid colors in this picture. It is a beautiful composition.
I keep tropical fish, but favor saltwater fish and usually think 'goldfish...BORING' You however have made this goldfish so super cute and looks like he/shes smiling and I've changed my mind...awesome pic!
What a beautiful picture this is! This'll make it to the popular page to be sure...the color just pops! And as usual, I loved reading what you had to share abuot your "neighborhood" and the residents. You really have found your calling there. Would that all retirement homes were as nice with as many animals!
Your work sounds really great! How wonderful that they have animals and fish for the residents. I believe that animals help people live longer!
That so great that you are allowed to have the animals there for the residents, they must get so much enjoyment from them.

i love that your 'neighborhood' has so many animals--i'm sure they feel blessed to have both the animals and you!!
