With another year's end just around the corner, we often look back and take a little inventory as we ask ourselves some questions. Am I satisfied with where I am right now? If I could go back and do this year over, what would I do differently? Have I done anything that I need to apologize for? What about the stupid mistakes I've made? Wow! That cost me an arm and a leg! I think we all do this. As this week comes to an end, I am going to be looking at my own life, and I will take a little inventory. Am I going to spend a great deal of time focusing on the errors, the regrets? No. I try to make it a point to look for possibilities in the mistakes I've made. I am going to keep moving forward regardless of the things I wish I would have done, or in spite of the stupid mistakes I've made.
I grabbed this photo on my way home from work today, and I took advantage of the moment. There was a beautiful sky in front of me, and a gorgeous sky behind me. So this look back was pain free. In fact it was quite calming, and I managed to capture some silhouettes at the same time. Yes I took it while I was driving, one of those "shooting from the hip" shots. Have a wonderful night.
I never look back anymore. I used to torture myself for years asking myself all those questions. The truth is life is what happens to us while we are waiting for "something magical" to happen to us. I focus on today, right now this moment and I am never disappointed. The past is gone, the future unknown, all we have is right now. I like the photo that you took here...it does embody the looking back process really well. Great shot!
Rick, this is an amazing photo. Great composition and great thought. We all should ask ourselves every year whether or not we have grown closer to God or further apart.
Excellent shot Rick.I love the fact that we can see in front and behind. Very good shot to go with your words. I love it. I try to learn from my mistakes, treat myself gently and go forward.
What an great capture! Perfect for the theme, and just overall awesome! I love the sentiment and feelings, too...and this photo represents those sentiments perfectly. Great one!
Awesome! So true, we do certainly look back this time of the year, and I am certain to do it too. I won't dwell on the past, as of course there were mistakes, and the only thing I can do about them now, is to move forward, take the lesson I learned, and grow from those lessons. And, as in the past, next year will be great, just like every year in the past :-) Here's to a great 2011 to you!
I like your look back. It doesn't look too much different than the look forward. I hope that this last year has been good to you and the next will also be good. :-)
I love what you did with this, and how you tied it to the thoughts of an upcoming year! Thank you... by the way... for all your kind words of encouragement and thoughtful comments.
I like the shot. How did you hold the camera still while driving? Your comments are very thought provoking. I often look back but then I realize that the path we take is chosen for us. I have been living my life knowing that we can not change the past but we need to learn from it.
WOW Rick, that is such a wonderful picture! Not only did you capture a most amazing sunset both coming & going but your message to go along with the image could not be more perfect! I'm constantly second guessing everything I do....coulda woulda shoulda is my middle name! Best wishes for the upcoming year!
Beautiful sunset! Beautiful photo ad beautiful words! And Thanks for the comments on my frozen leaf. To answer your question, we've only had snow in our part of South Texas twice in 100 years. LOL
I was captivated with your picture the moment that it loaded onto my computer. I couldn't stop looking both into the mirror and into the sunset ahead. It's just a perfect picture for today as you reflect on both the past and look to the future. Blessings to you for everything. I can't say enough about this picture! JUST WOW!
Stunning photo and interesting perspective as well. We're all human and can't be perfect--just keep intentions on the up and up and I think everything works out
Beautiful shot!
I enjoyed reading your note under your shot! So true!
I did not make any NY resolutions for 2011.
I think will do as you say - go forward ! :)
This is a wonderful composition for reflection. You know the month January is named for the 2-headed Roman god Janus who could look back and forward at the same time. We don't usually have that balance but at this time of year many do want to take stock and reflect on their journey. Nicely illustrated.
Oh my gosh! SENSATIONAL colour! Just beautiful and I love the perspective; that the shot is a reflection. I can't believe this photo wasn't more 'staged'. Well done on your from the hip technique!
