I was cleaning out the TV cabinet and I came across these two items tucked in the back corner. Our Children are now 24 & 26 years old. The item on the left is a ceramic whale that our Son made when he was in first grade. He even made a little feeding bowl to go along with it. How thoughtful. The item on the right is a small ceramic basket that our Daughter made when she was in first grade. She even managed to imprint flowers into the clay before firing it. I remember when they brought them home. They were so proud of them. So I'm sure even back then I knew they were keepsakes. When I found them and brought them out, I was instantly taken back to those innocent years. Oh sometimes I miss those days, but wouldn't want to go through the teenage years again. So now these items are going to find a special spot on a shelf somewhere. Take a few moments to listen to the song and enjoy your own journey with me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUw125JMVFI
Oh they are for sure keepsakes! Each one, painstakingly created by small unsteady hands. Then cradled on the way home to show mom and dad :-) I bet the pride in their eyes when they showed you and your wife was priceless! Thanks for sharing the song with this photo, great song, great photo!
What talented little kids they were! It's great that you've kept them all these years. My parents are the same, they have so much stuff that my brothers and I made them over the years.
Great story and great shot :-)
Love Love LOVE tiny treasures such as this! My little man is 2...I can't wait to capture his little creations! He already enjoys painting with toothpaste =)
Thanks for sharing these keepsakes. I still keep the little drawings my daughter brought home from school and the litttle gifts she made for Mother's Day.
Awww! What a terrific surprise to find these! Hopefully you emailed this pic to your grown kids--they'll love it! Btw, I love the shading and the frame. Nice touch!
I love this, and your past four days photos Rick, for their simplicity and the "ordinariness" of them--those objects, memories, and thoughts that make us human, and life good. Everything that money can't buy.
These are the best kind of things to find. The memories that they can bring back. I love seeing all of these things at my parent's house. Now I'll have a listen to this song.
It always amazes me that when I go home to visit my parents, they still have these sort of keepsakes displayed around there house. Such lovely memories!
Adorable...I have 2 entire boxes of stuff my children made in pre-school, kindergarten...you name it...as parents we are such sentimental fools! Lovely memory.
I love the feeding bowl, that's so awesome. Okay--and what you said about the teenage years scared me! We aren't there yet! These are really cute, Rick
We have a few of those ceramic treasures at our house too!! Your photos are always so touching with such thoughtful sentiments attached. Keep up the good work Rick, I really enjoy your daily insights.
When we moved 2 years ago, we had been in our previous home for 14 years. Needless to say, when we sorted through all of the boxes in the basement, we found similar items made by our children with so much sentimental value. We couldn't possibly part with them so them made the move, too! Very sweet capture, Rick.
Thank you for the 'sentimental journey'. Kids are a true blessing and grand-kids are still another big blessing. All those memories are heart stopping, some heart wretching some bring you to tears, but they are all good. Love the picture and love the write up and thank you again for the link to 'Sentimental Journey."
These are the priceless treasures we parents hold close to our hearts. My little guy is only 3 and we already have a bin full of art projects. My wife and I were just talking tonight about how we wish we could bottle up some of his youthful innocence for later years. Thanks for sharing these treasures with us Rick.
Great story and great shot :-)
