It's bad enough having one alarm clock, we have three. Yes, three. My Wife and I both work an extra side job every other weekend. On our weekend shifts we work different shifts. She works the Midnight to 8:00am shift, and I work 7am - 3pm. During the week we work the same shift, and at the same place, so we get up the same time, and drive to work together. I learned early on that it was much easier getting three alarm clocks, each one having their designated times to go off. Hey, it works well, and it is far less frustrating. It was another busy day trying to get everything finished at work before going on leave tomorrow, so this is my photo for the night. A little piece of our life, our world.
Sometimes I feel like I should have multiple alarm clocks. I work 3 different shifts between my two jobs on a weekly basis. I have definitely set my alarm for the wrong time on the wrong day before. It's not fun. haha. So I understand the need for this!
@sarasdadandmom Hey, and my Wife is in command LOL. Don't tell her I said that. She would deny it all the way :) The truth is, the clocks are on her side. I did not mind turning over the control center at all LOL.
I love how you shared this little piece of your life. so homey and inviting looking. I love that lamp.
and even though alarms can be annoying... they are wonderful for waking us up :D well... I've been sleeping through my alarm clock more often lately :X but most of the time, when it does wake me up, I'm thankful.
u can never have too many clocks :) .. if i may ask, how do u shoot in low lighting? im a beginner and im not good at taking indoor shots. thanks in advance!
Good idea for a photo and commentary. I have my cell phone set for 3 different times in the morning. First alarm is when I should get up, second is for when I want those few extra moments and the third is for when I need to head out to pick up a passenger who rides to work with me.
@josamz I switch to manual mode, check out the settings and adjust accordingly. Depending on your camera, you should have various settings. On my Canon I have a mode that I can check for the proper exposure and aperature, then I switch to manual and adjust accordingly.
I was just going to ask who gets to be the one to hit the snooze, but I see in the comments that your wife’s in command. My daughter asked where we got the clocks . . . we have the exact same lamp and she thought it was my picture.
Thanks Rick for the tip but i haven't ventured into manual mode yet. Im a complete beginner. ive just been fiddling with aperture priority so far :). I'm sure my cam has a lot of options that i dont know about hehehe
Your problem must be a common one because my clock has 2 separate alarms! Your shot is so inviting and the lighting is very warm and appealing. It was a good idea to share.
I love the color and quality of light in this picture. Thank you for posting how you did it. I'm just getting ready to venture into manual mode, so I'm collecting tips. The story of the alarm clocks made me laugh!
Ha I shall take a pic of my bedside table. LOL Yours makes me smile. I cant keep track of one alarm clock, but three. OMG. I'd be a mess. My two little dogs are really my alarm clocks. Much better, not as loud, and they never shut off if the electricity goes out...love your picture
What a beautiful space - so warm. My clock has 2 alarms - one is always set for work days and the other I set when I need it at other times. I just have to remember to turn them on! (Ted has a separate clock - it has to BLAST to wake him)
LOL! The tyranny of time. This is a cool shot with your 3 clocks set to go off at different times - a very clever idea actually, I love the lampshade too & the lighting in this photo.
Wow--that's crazy, Rick. I used to work a 9PM to 5AM shift in a blood laboratory for years while taking a full load of university classes in the day. Those hours really take their toll! When do you guys sleep???
Were you in the military? My husband was, and we took leave when we were taking time off. You used the work leave, so I was wondering? Great shot, and I don't blame you for the different alarms. I have three set on my cell phone. Hehe
Wow- your schedule makes me tired just thinking about it. I'd probably need 3 alarm clocks for one day, just to insure I actually got up! It's a nice glimpse into your world. I love the contrast between the "old" lamp and the "modern" alarm clocks. The soft lighting gives it a homey feel too. Praying for your surgery tomorrow. I know all will go well since you're in the hands of the Great Physician.
@cmansinon Carie, no I was not in the military, though I tried enlsiting into the Air Force when I graduated. Then in 1972 - 73 the war ended. I tend to use that term when referring to being off for medical purposes.
@clarissajohal Clarissa, we sleep whenever we can, LOL. Beginning later in May I am cutting back to only doing every other Sat besides my FT stuff. It is getting old. Been doing it for probably 7 years now. Cutting back will be nice, though I will need to wean myself off the hours, can't have withdrawl :)
lol... I have three alarms, two clocks though. I'm glad I'm not the only one, but I think yours is for better reasons. I'm just lazy and hate getting out of bed. ;)
Very "warm" image, Rick.
Your alarm clock approach makes total sense! I don't have multiple alarm clocks, but mine is (a) battery-operated so it works through power outages and (2) mine is *not* next to the bed. When it goes off, I *have* to get out of bed to shut it up.
Geez--that one brought a lot of comment! I love it, mostly because of the insight into your thought processes, and the softness of your and your wife's corner of the world. Special.
As long as it works...it's the right thing to do. I have an alarm clock that has two alarms as well as a weekend sleeper button. I used to turn off the alarm for the weekend and then forget to turn it back on. Now, I don't worry about that. It's perfect.
Beautiful photo....I love the warmth you achieved with your processing. I can't imagine having 3 alarms, I'd no doubt mess up and set the wrong one for for sure! :)
and even though alarms can be annoying... they are wonderful for waking us up :D well... I've been sleeping through my alarm clock more often lately :X but most of the time, when it does wake me up, I'm thankful.
I barely can hand one alarm clock, I can't even imagine three

Good luck today!
