Gone But Not Forgotten by digitalrn

Gone But Not Forgotten

I have always wanted to stop by this little cemetery. There are maybe eight grave markers in this little plot, and some of the markers date back to the mid 1700's. It's a neat little plot, because someone actually takes care of it by keeping the grass cut, and places flowers by the markers several times a year. This is an example of "Gone But Not Forgotten"
This is a gorgeous gravestone shot, Rick. Really neat that it's so old too, is it a family plot?

Oh wow. We have a few old cemeteries in my town also.
Good shot Rick.

I love old cemetaries and plan to visit one in the woods near my house when the daffodils bloom, because even though it is a family plot that is hundreds of years old, the flowers still bloom. This is a lovely shot!

What is it about cemeteries...I am certainly in no hurry to "live" there but I still can't resist going and reading the inscriptions and thinking about these people and wondering about their lives...nice capture, Rick.

Lovely shot Rick - cemeteries are interesting places to visit, read some history and take some nice shots.

@clarissajohal This grouping here looks like it is family. There are four in this group and then about four others are in the immediate area.

April 6th, 2011
Wow! Interesting place. Kinda spooky shot.
April 6th, 2011
Wow, that's such a pretty cemetery. I love that someone is taking care of it. I don't think you missed anything. I've just got a month to go, or a little longer, before I've hit 365. I'm not sure if I will continue or just adjust how I'm doing it, which then wouldn't quite be within the parameter of the project. I'm basically undecided.
April 6th, 2011
Old graveyards are so neat and interesting to walk through. I really like this focus.
April 6th, 2011
@hellcat Ok. I thought perhaps I had missed a previous post. I hear you. I have been thinking about a second year too. I have mixed feelings. I have made it a point to do it every day, and comment on all the postings. My Wife has been a trooper, but not sure I will have the time to dedicate to another year with the same dedication. It's not fair to her. Perhaps a modified version. It has become a part of my daily life.

This is beautiful...! Cemeteries in your area are older than around my state.
April 6th, 2011

April 6th, 2011
Very touching. It's so nice that someone cares for it. Excellent choice for the edging-gives it a feel of heritage and history.

Great shot, love the angle of the two gravestones, almost protected by the branches.
April 6th, 2011
Something about those old grave stones that draw us to them. Makes you wonder what the world looked like when they were alive. Great job.
April 6th, 2011
Neat find - I love seeing old stones like that!
April 6th, 2011
Yes, old ccmeteries are very interesting. wonderful capture!
April 6th, 2011
This is beautiful! I love old cemeteries and the headstones that look like this. So much meaning and thought went into them. Although I still have a few relatives with no headstone at all. There is also a cemetery around me that is really old and I can't figure out if it's ever open. Every time I go past there is a padlock on the gate.
April 6th, 2011
Great capture. I love going to old cemeteries.
April 6th, 2011
Really nice shot. :) I'm glad to hear someone is maintaining the place.
April 6th, 2011

I too like cemeteries.
You can get a lot of history from reading the headstones.
Nice to think that someone remembers this one :)
April 6th, 2011
I love little cemeteries like this and always try to stop by them. Its lovely when they are that old and still cared for...

How is the hand?? Able to pick your nose again I hope? :)
April 6th, 2011
Very nice entry, rick.... I like it..... great composition and color tone....
April 6th, 2011
This old and well kept cemetary made a great picture for you. I was blown away when we were in vacation in Germany and visited family plots there. the cemetary reminded me of a botanical garden that many flowers and all so well looked after. my husbands sister goes almost every day in the hot summer to water the flowers.
April 6th, 2011
Lovely capture. Very serene. You did it justice.
April 6th, 2011
Interesting that you posted this...my husband and I were just talking about walking through and taking pictures at this old cemetary in Old Town. Hope to get that done soon! This was great!
April 6th, 2011
Yeah, I hear that concern. There's lots to think about when it comes to the day after the 365th photo.
April 6th, 2011
Love old stones like this. You have captured them well :-)
April 6th, 2011
wow, awesome shot!
April 6th, 2011
s.It looks absorbed with meaning and stories.
April 6th, 2011
Strangely enough, when we used to visit new towns as a kid, my mum often would take us to have a picnic in one of the graveyards if it was warm. I think it was her way of making us view the places from a different angle, seeing the beauty of them, that and the fact that they were a quiet respite from the bustle going on elsewhere.
April 6th, 2011
great shot rick!
April 7th, 2011
very interesting!
April 7th, 2011

April 7th, 2011
I am a little behind with my comments, but here I am.
That is very interesting a cemetery so old and someone takes care of it.
The photo is calm, it gives an idea of peace.
April 8th, 2011
Great shot. It's really sweet that someone still sets flowers on the graves. My eyes teared up a little when I read that...it's so sweet. Maybe I'm just a sap. Nonetheless...great shot and great back story. Thank you for sharing.
April 8th, 2011
What an amazing piece of history...thanks for sharing.
April 8th, 2011
Very nice shot. Very thought provoking.
April 8th, 2011
Beautifiully captured and presented.....it's nice to see an old cemetary that is well cared for. Many are not so fortunate! We have one near us that appears to be totally abandoned and uncared for. Sad really.
April 8th, 2011
Moody beauty.
April 9th, 2011
Wonderfully shot.
April 11th, 2011
What a great photograph, I love this. I have a cemetery I keep meaning to visit to snap some pictures of old grave markers. I don't know if there are any from the 1700's though.
