I have always wanted to stop by this little cemetery. There are maybe eight grave markers in this little plot, and some of the markers date back to the mid 1700's. It's a neat little plot, because someone actually takes care of it by keeping the grass cut, and places flowers by the markers several times a year. This is an example of "Gone But Not Forgotten"
I love old cemetaries and plan to visit one in the woods near my house when the daffodils bloom, because even though it is a family plot that is hundreds of years old, the flowers still bloom. This is a lovely shot!
What is it about cemeteries...I am certainly in no hurry to "live" there but I still can't resist going and reading the inscriptions and thinking about these people and wondering about their lives...nice capture, Rick.
Wow, that's such a pretty cemetery. I love that someone is taking care of it. I don't think you missed anything. I've just got a month to go, or a little longer, before I've hit 365. I'm not sure if I will continue or just adjust how I'm doing it, which then wouldn't quite be within the parameter of the project. I'm basically undecided.
@hellcat Ok. I thought perhaps I had missed a previous post. I hear you. I have been thinking about a second year too. I have mixed feelings. I have made it a point to do it every day, and comment on all the postings. My Wife has been a trooper, but not sure I will have the time to dedicate to another year with the same dedication. It's not fair to her. Perhaps a modified version. It has become a part of my daily life.
you must be reading my mind. I went to one of our oldest cemeteries in town to scout out some awesome stones. I am going back on a really cool great day to shoot some of them. this really great.
love walking through cemeteries, you see trinkets and whatnots there left by the visitors and they are never disturbed. This shot has great processing.
This is beautiful! I love old cemeteries and the headstones that look like this. So much meaning and thought went into them. Although I still have a few relatives with no headstone at all. There is also a cemetery around me that is really old and I can't figure out if it's ever open. Every time I go past there is a padlock on the gate.
This old and well kept cemetary made a great picture for you. I was blown away when we were in vacation in Germany and visited family plots there. the cemetary reminded me of a botanical garden that many flowers and all so well looked after. my husbands sister goes almost every day in the hot summer to water the flowers.
Interesting that you posted this...my husband and I were just talking about walking through and taking pictures at this old cemetary in Old Town. Hope to get that done soon! This was great!
Strangely enough, when we used to visit new towns as a kid, my mum often would take us to have a picnic in one of the graveyards if it was warm. I think it was her way of making us view the places from a different angle, seeing the beauty of them, that and the fact that they were a quiet respite from the bustle going on elsewhere.
I am a little behind with my comments, but here I am.
That is very interesting a cemetery so old and someone takes care of it.
The photo is calm, it gives an idea of peace.
Great shot. It's really sweet that someone still sets flowers on the graves. My eyes teared up a little when I read that...it's so sweet. Maybe I'm just a sap. Nonetheless...great shot and great back story. Thank you for sharing.
Beautifiully captured and presented.....it's nice to see an old cemetary that is well cared for. Many are not so fortunate! We have one near us that appears to be totally abandoned and uncared for. Sad really.
What a great photograph, I love this. I have a cemetery I keep meaning to visit to snap some pictures of old grave markers. I don't know if there are any from the 1700's though.
Good shot Rick.
I too like cemeteries.
You can get a lot of history from reading the headstones.
Nice to think that someone remembers this one :)
How is the hand?? Able to pick your nose again I hope? :)
