The small town in which I live is spotted with several old churches, a few dating back to the 1700's. This one I believe dates back to the early 1800's. I love its stone structure, and this bell tower that highlights the front corner of this magificent old church. The front entrance is marked by two huge stone arches, and the doors are huge and made of magnificent wood. All of the stained glass windows, though some are in need of repair, are still intact. I am so glad our town has chosen to maintain the integrity of these old churches, for they add such historic charm to our community. This particular church is going through some kind of repair or restoration, and I just had to stop today to capture a shot of this stately old church. It sits right along the roadway, so it is difficult to avoid telephone cables and signs, but this gives you a little view of its beauty.
Great shot to minimize/eliminate the usual urban distractions and an inspired title! I went crazy in France at Notre Dame and Chartres … even with film! I'd have to have a suitcase loaded with memory cards now! ;)
The stone work looks amazing. There is something wonderful about old churches. I'm glad to see that this one is still in use and cared for. I love the word play in your title!
That church is simply amazing. I really wish I could see it in person. It reminds me of the churches I saw when I visited Charleston, but it still has a Northeast feel. Beautiful shot, Rick!
Stunning piece of architecture. such gorgeous stonework and a wonderful composition. We have a couple beautiful old churches in a small town nearby and there are powerlines and cables running all over the place....right in front of them both so it's nearly impossible to get a decent shot of either of them. It's so annoying!
i almost gave up on getting to the end of your comments... its just so loooong... i already forgot what picture was at the top. oh yeah the building. what else can i say that everyone else hasnt said? anyway, good job
