FINISHED YEAR 1 of my 365 Photo Project

February 8th, 2014
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliot Erwitt

Nothing could be truer. In my 365 photo project journey this past year I’ve learned to observe life differently. Learned to observe objects differently which has opened my eyes and my soul to feeling every moment.

I’ve had frustrating moments when a certain technique just won’t click in my head and I’ve had great moments where I surprised myself by my skill level. I’ve even recruited my Mom to help as my trusty assistant. Thanks Mom! Everything that I have learned about photography has been driven by my passion for capturing moments in time. When I look at photographs I can almost feel what’s happening in a photo. That’s the test of a great photo and what I strive to capture in my photos, feelings and emotions.

Not only did I start this challenging project (I surprised myself on that), I met lots of great photographers along the way who with their encouraging words were like the wind that carried me forward. Reminding me not to give up. Reminding me that I could do this, that I MUST do this and to confirm that photography IS my calling. I also started a portfolio website where I can showcase my work to the world (it’s still a work in progress).

Most of all, I learned that putting myself out there, whether it just be posting work and having it judged, participating in contests (and not winning) to receiving awards for photos was not as scary as I thought. No one likes to be judged and putting your work out there is opening yourself of up potential negativity and criticism, which can be hard to take and almost discouraging. Especially for a sensitive nelly like me. So thank you 365! And thank you to all of the amazing talented photographers for your comments, your encouragement and inspiring me with your talent!

I look forward to the years ahead! It will only get better from here! So bring it on and watch out world.
