This is a really cool site that I found on Weather.com. I looked through all of them and it gave me an idea for a competition or a thread at least. (#18 is particularly disturbing - check it out). I think it would be cool to find more abandoned structures and places in your state or country and post them here. What do you think? Or should it be a competition? I love old abandoned structures . . . comments? Thoughts? I'd be happy to start it up!
i'd be kind of interested in participating... i haven't checked your link yet, however, whenever i've tried looking into urban exploration locations, i find they (the exact locations) are generally extremely well-protected secrets! i think experienced urban ex photogs are worried about locations becoming over-run, or closed down, if they were too easily found...
@northy Well, let's see what is generated in this conversation and we can try. I know of several places in South Carolina that are abandoned and would love to get in there to shoot some pics. There is an old factory in Augusta on the Savannah River that actually dates back to the Civil War and is reputed to be haunted. Then there is an abandoned mental hospital near Columbia South Carolina that is very eerie. Than there is old Sheldon Church and Lands End near Beaufort. I would be happy to do some day trips to capture some of these places. I'm always intrigued by old abandoned places . . . how about the rest of ya'll?
@lbluejaye8 - I have seen this done as a series by photographers. Many many communities around the world sadly have similar areas. I don't know what would be the best way to run this. But I would be willing to participate if you decide to do it.
@skipt07 Well, since I'm off for five days due to Hurricane Matthew possibly hitting our state (South Carolina), I will get this going! I'd love to see what we come up with! Thanks Skip!
We recently moved to the Catskill area of NY and the number of abandoned locales here is simply incredible. Our daughter Breia is consistently looking for and finding new places to explore. We will squeeze in what we can until it gets too cold and then look forward to the spring!
It sounds like a fun thing to do, Jaye. I see a lot of abandoned buildings when my husband and I take photo op rides. Keep us posted on how you would like to do this. I haven't checked out your link yet but will now.
Oh, and I'd rather share the pictures and maybe tag them but I'm not too keen on it being a competition. Just my thoughts.
just tagging @aprilmilani here as she has been shooting at an abandoned house and might be interested? i might be too, if i can find an abandoned structure :)
@skipt07 Me, too, but already have a friend coming up from Charleston as he was there when Hugo hit and he isn't taking any chances. I'm near Augusta, Georgia, so I'm hoping we don't get too much of the impact!
@lbluejaye8 - I am certain that our daughter Breia @breiavictoria and my wife JoAnne @jo38 will participate when you get it under way Jaye - we will keep an eye out for it!
@brett101 Thank you - May set something up tomorrow. Going out to take some photos of some old buildings tomorrow so I will see about getting it going.
