Newbie

June 6th, 2020
Hi all, my name is Dawn from Lincolnshire. I am new to this year's 365 Project. I was on here some time ago and I believe that some of you may have carried on. I have been through a difficult time and have only just recently got my mojo back for photography, thank goodness! I have posted a few photos over the recent days but to date have not received one comment on any of them. I am going to start following some of you but it would have been nice to receive at least one comment, even if it was a suggestion. Are they any other new people like me that would like me to follow them.

Hi Dawn, if you just find some 365ers whose photos you like and comment on their posts, then I'm sure things will develop! :-)

Hi there, welcome to 365, thanks for introducing yourself , will take a look at your project, my best advice is to get involved with the themes and such , that way more people will come across your work, enjoy!

Dawn, I agree with Annie-Sue and Kali. As there is such a large membership on 365 newbies can easily be missed but if you, as the newbie, are proactive you will be noticed and followers/supporters will naturally take note of your work and leave comments.

Welcome to the kindest, loveliest group of people who will be generous with feedback and comments and advice. It's not however Facebook with friends unlimited immediately.

You could look in Browse and see who is suggested as "people to follow", comment on their uploads and they may reciprocate. You do not need to follow them forever, but see who comments on them and flit around.

Choose who to comment on and follow and as the film says " if you build it, they will come" or something like that!!

Enjoy ☺

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Thank you Jackie, I have been on here before some time ago and completed the year, followed and was followed, maybe because it’s larger you cannot comment on all I realise that but I expected at least one comment. I have taken on board what everybody has said and thanks again.

Welcome to 365 Dawn, I can only echo all the above. Annie-Sue gave you the best advice. It all takes time, once the ball gets rolling there is no stopping. Hope you have a wonderful experience here.

welcome Dawn!
I hope you don't mind if I just share a little of my own personal experience here.
This is definitely my happy place - I found that looking for others who post photos that I enjoy, am inspired by, or can identify with really helped me. I then started following them, and make a point of commenting on as many photos as I can every day. I found that being interested in what others are doing, genuinely, and developing my skills through others photos here, has ended in me developing a following. It took time, and I come here as much to see what others have managed to capture and upload each day, as to put my own photos up.

I hope you can make this your happy place too, by following lots of the awesome, incredibly talented people here. You can develop some lovely friendships. This place has enriched me, and I would never have become the photographer I am without the inspiration I have found by following projects here.

Welcome back to the challenge. I found that if I chose people to follow, more often than note they would follow back. I try to follow anyone that follows me. I’m not commenting as much as I used to, purely a time thing. I’m a bit lazy in resorting to FAVs but at least I’ve acknowledged the photo. Another tip, enter the challenges, a) it stretches you and b) more people will see you. I tend to follow people more in my time zone as they are posting at the same time as me. I also follow people who live in places I know and love

Welcome back to 365! I've found that by commenting on other peoples photos and following them then you usually get lots of comments, I've found it's all about interaction which takes time but lovely to get encouragement.

@dawnmccool

Please feel free to follow me. At the moment I have not done very much photography during the lockdown, however normally I am able to spend half the year in Asia and half in Yorkshire so I do post a variety of photographs.

One suggestion that I would make to boost viewing figures, if that is the correct term, is to have a look at the challenges and take part. There are too many themes to identify them all here but Street Photographs, Scenes from the Road, Macro, Landscape are all very doable as are some of the editing themes such as WWYD.

The weekly list:

is always worth a read and gives a lot of ideas.
