Critiques needed

May 8th, 2010
I have been reading the Underappreciated??? post and have been referred to some great photographers. My question to all is what help or advise can you give me on my pictures that will allow more people to follow me and to critique my pictures?

Thank you in advance.

My suggestion is simple. become a sponge. Figure out what you want to shoot. Then follow others either here or flickr or other sites. take the image apart the best you can. even better, some give setup shots or info how they took the picture. Biggest thing. Start taking more picture then you know what to do with. You will only learn by shooting. And don't get too fooled by today's technology. There is a lot of great shots that have had help in Post Processing (PP). I believe it is a legit tool of the trade and think it is part of the artist vision, but that is a debate that will not rest.

in short. follow those that you like and learn and lastly shot to make your images YOUR vision. I will start following you and givin you Comment and Critiques (CC) were I see fit. But keep in mind I give them based on my vision which might not be yours, on of the issues with CC. We are all learning this game, even the masters out there learn something new.

Hi Joe -
I am writing this reply not as a critic, but as someone who likes to follow people who shoot pictures I like to look at. A 'regular' item all of the sudden can look mysteroius, dangerous, humerous if taken at an angle that changes it!

I flipped through some of your photos starting with the most recent and went backwards to 4/11. Here are my thoughts:

I loved the B&W bird's nest shot. I would have used B&W too as the nest was empty and B&W just feels right to me for that image.

The pic with you holding the pen was interesting to me, mainly because it was an unexpected type of photo.

The I got to 4/11 and read what you wrote under the pond picture and had a thought. You described finding to caches w/your son. Did you photograph them? What was in them? Do you geocache often? If so, what have you found in THOSE caches? See, I'm quite intersted in THOSE photos - especially if you used imagination in composition! :-)
