This is the only way to get allot of attention on something. I would like to know if anyone on this great website knows what this (rock) could be. All the rock, stone around here (upper New York State) is sedimentary. I found this today under a tree in my yard that was blown down a few days ago. Today I had the stump dug up and that is where the stone was. The tree around 35-40 years old. There is no evidence of (stone fill) having been brought to the area. The rock is heavier than it should be by the looks of it. Also, I could not capture the hundreds of tiny sparkles that are on it. So if anyone could help, or point me in the right direction that would be great,
Thanks in advance for your help
The other picture sounds very interesting!
Don't know what the rock is.... trouble with stones is that you need to handle them... and that looks igneous in origin....
I am also from WNY and that rock looks familiar to me, it is defanitely part of our system up there. What it is, sorry I don't know. I would just do some googling for what types of rocks are found in Western New York. Also you could swing by the local high school I bet the 'earth science' teacher knows. My earth science teacher in HS (dont ask me how long ago this was!) had all kinds of rocks from the area and knew what each one was. I also brought him something really strange once I found on a beach and he said it was a stone formed by lightning hitting the sand and melting it into weird shapes.
