Basically I have a limit of £400 :) I've come into a bit of money :)
I was looking at the sony a450 as I've found it available for £329.99 (was £299.99 but I didn't have the money at the time :( )
I basically have no idea what I'm doing or what to look for so any advice is greatly appreciated :) Thank you in advance!
I just bought my first dslr about a month and a half ago, a Sony a230, and I love it! I know Nikon and Canon are the "Kings" as far as dslrs go, but if you don't have the money to go with one of those brands, I would recommend the Sony. It is a good starter dslr with some nice features that should be enough to get you started. I do agree with Steve though as far as researching reviews. There is a lot of information out there, and you need to be comfortable and informed before you make this kind of purchase. Good luck!
Thanks guys :)
Everyone I know actually has sonys and swears by them - they're also cheaper which is why I'm leaning more towards them lol
I did look for a sony a230 but they stopped doing them now :(
Thank you for the link to the review website I'll check it out now :)
Remember though that you have a lot more flexibility with Canon and Nikon - if you ever decide to upgrade you can still uses the lenses you've purchased. I doubt Sony have even close to the range of lenses that Canon and Nikon have. Besides I'm sure you can get a Canon 1000D for that price...
I'm not sure I'd be buying all too many lenses to be honest :(
I'm just about to go into my second year of university so this is just to be a hobby really with a little spare cash I've just come into :(
Yeah, you *can* get a Canon 1000D for about £350, which is their entry level SLR. If you wanted to go up to the next level of a 450D or 500D, you'd probably be breaking your budget by at least £50, unless you got very lucky with a special offer or something, but it may be worth shopping around.
It's funny when people say they're not bothered about lenses and all that, but wait until you get one! And it probably is worth stretching slightly to get the 450D, although perhaps online you can get it cheaper.
OK comparing the two it seems the 1000D has a smaller LCD, no spot metering (which is very handy to have) and a marginally slower continuous shoot mode. It's also rocking 10 megapixels versus the 450D's 12 but that's neither here nor there.
I'd be trying to stretch for the 450, personally, but the 1000 will probably serve you just as well.
I have a Canon EOS 1000D and love it, it's my first DLSR and it's a great camera to begin with, as others have said when it's time to move onto the next level you can still use any lenses you have already bought.
I totally agree with Vikdaddy - just you wait!! I've just got my first additional lens and already know what I am buying next.
I agree with steve ane Vikdaddy, please please please push for the 450D... beg / steal / borrow / sell steve's body on the streets to make an extra £. Anything!
1. I only ever hear people talking about Canon and Nikon in terms of decent SLRs.
2. You should use dpreview.com extensively to check reviews of any you intend to buy, and comparisons with other contenders, and such.
