I just bought the Canon 10-22mm for my 450D, I love it! I'm sure there's a Nikon equivalent. It's especially for landscapes and architecture photographs so you have to ask yourself whether you'll be shooting for these kinds of shots.
Hi Erin, bought a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM nearly 3 years ago, would not be without it, a super lens for my Nikon D80/D90, cost about £350.00, the other Sigma UWA lens is the f3.5 EX DC HSM, about £500.00
Pick up the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. It's a great lens for about $470. The Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 is around $800. It's a little faster, but not by much.
I haven't shot with the Nikkor, but the image quality on the Sigma is great. It's really sharp from corner to corner. I'd save the money and go with the Sigma.
I have the Tokina 11-16 2.8 for my d50 and love it. I have found however that I don't use the 2.8 as much as I thought I would. Also, now that I think about it, I'm not sure it will autofocus on your d5000. It relies on the body for the autofocus motor.
The new Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 will be a fun one. It may not sound like it, but 8mm is significantly wider than 10mm. It's as wide as you can get without going fisheye. The lens does vignette a lot at 8mm unless stopped down to about to about F8, and it won't be as sharp as the sigma 10-20mm.
I have the Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 which is basically the full frame version of the 8-16mm. Not the sharpest lens I own especially on the corners of the frame, but it's crazy wide.
yeah im really thinking about getting one i love shoot architecture but im not really happy with the results at the moment. I thought seeing the camera was a present from my lovely fiance that I may as well use it to its potential and shoot what i want so why not fork out fopr a wide angle lens. thanks everyone great ideas guess i will have to look into it some more but great help!
