shopping for a new Point and Shoot

September 4th, 2010
ok all u brillant p & s shooters , im about to search for a decent p & s and wondered if anyone of u could give me some ideas on something worth while. I seem to keep breaking Olympus brands as im a little rough on them when im out partying. I want it to be able to fit into my pocket and go anywhere with me . Will just be used where the SLR isnt able to go , which is why i call my p&s cameras "pub cameras". Only ever seem to use them when i've been drinking lol..

any ideas would be great !!!

thanx in advance !!!

I love my Panasonic Lumix wide angle lens (DMC TZ10) but probably a little pricey for a pub camera!! Maybe the non-wide lens version?

I've had my ixxus since 2005. It has travelled there world and I will take it anywhere. Dropped it a few times in bars. Great quality. However, it's and old one with a case of metal, I think the newer ones are plastic.

Get the new Canon S95. It has manual functionality just like a D-SLR but in compact form. I have the S90 (model before, very similar) and quite a few of the photos I post are taken with that.

I only use a p&s for my project, because it's the only camera I have. It's an older (by technology standards, really only going on about 3 years old) Canon. It's a Powershoot A-series camera, and I absolutely love it =) Small enough and easy to use, but I know canon also has a variety of cameras smaller than the one I have.

I'd go with a Sony Cyber-Shot or Panasonic Lumix.

I am using a Canon Ixus 70 (or powershot1000) for my project, as it's the only camera I've got. It's an older model in the IXUS line, but still works great, and you can pick up a used one pretty cheap now. It doesn't have much in the way of manual functions at all, but not a lot of point and shoots do, and since it's not going to be your main camera, I'm guessing that shouldn't be too big of a deal. Anyways, I would recommend it (or another from the Canon IXUS line). I read up about a variety of cameras when I was getting mine and think that Canon is one of the best in terms of image quality in point and shoots.

I use my dslr for everything, but I do have a Sony Cybershot DSC-TX1 point & shoot. It's pretty good. 10MP, takes HD movies, and shoots in-camera panoramas (horizontal & vertical), and it's excellent in low-light situations. It's also a flat slim camera that will fit right in your pocket.

For vivid colors and clarity, take a look at Fuji. I used a P&S Fuji for years before going DSLR. I mostly used a FinePix S3000, 3 mpixel camera. These were all taken with a Fuji

I use a Kodak M320 and love the functions on it. All of my pics on here except the two skateboarders were taken with the Kodak. It is very compact and fits easily into a pocket. It is HD and shoots videos as well. I was impressed with it for the price, (in a sale at £60 as opposed to £160 UK) My son bought one and showed it to me, so I got one. Then my son got one for my daughter in law (Vanya) who also uses hers on 365

90% of my 365 has been taken on a panasonic DMC TZ5 ... the TZ7 is the latest version ...LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens on both cameras, its top camera and tough as old boots, lost mine in a snow drift back in January for over 45mins and it came out wet , frozen but working fine ,, then a couple of weeks ago i dropped it on a very muddy path .. still going strong ...its a little gem

i know its a uk link but it gives you all the info about the panasonic ...&.. links into the Panasonics website
