D7100 Vs D7200

February 13th, 2017
So I've got a nice bonus coming from my old job my D3100 has just kicked over 52000 actuations and the autofocus isn't what it was. Also would like the newer functions and that nice boost in MP but...

D7100 or D7200 - Obviously in an ideal world the D7200 is the newer better camera.

D7100 - £400-450
D7200 - £800-1000

Yes I'm tied between these two because all my lenses are Nikon DX lenses and i can currently not get a few of them to use autofocus on my D3100, It doesnt have a motor driven focus so some of my older lenses that dont have chips in them dont work (Nikon 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 105mm, Sigma 150-500mm)

I've worked very hard to get the best glass that I could afford whenever I was buying or trading lenses and now I think my shots are suffering due to my camera body, D7100 and D7200 can you pitch in and help me make the £500 question a little bit less difficult?

Cheers All

Great problem to have. I looked very hard at both of them, but ended up holding off until the D500 appeared. As far as I could tell, the key difference b/n 7200 v 7100 looks like buffer depth (IMHO, D7100 a bit restricted here).

I like what Thom Hogan has to say (a lot of it is technical, but you can parse for the main points): http://www.dslrbodies.com/cameras/current-nikon-dslr-reviews/nikon-d7200-camera-review.html

Hopefully you will find someone here who has one or both of the D7X00 cameras.

Good luck.

I have the 7200 which I upgraded from the 7000. I actually can't fault it. I didn't want to go full frame when I upgraded as i have lots of lenses that I wouldn't be able to use full frame. I would now like to go to the D500 but it's too pricey to justify.

@scotthouston and @sminersphotos, sorry for not replying at any speed. In the end I looked around a photography store and couldnt see a real difference in actual shooting of the both side by side. Walked away with a D7100 with virtually no actuations on it (1268??), the guy selling the camera said that nobody had ever checked actuations in front of him before, which I found amusing as its something I always look for.

Long story short. The D7200 outperformed the D7100 in a few areas, the buffer being one of them, but even then the D7200 still wasnt beating the D7100 with the 1.3x Crop mode on, long story short, if I'm ever shooting sports I either put up with 18-20shot bursts or a 1.3x crop from DX. I then walked back to my flat and set my new camera up in tethered shooting mode to play with settings and see what I could do with it, and spilt a cup of tea all over my Macs screen. £500 bill from the apple store and a new screen unit later and I can actually get on with editing my photos.

Thanks for the reply if I could like them I would!

I wonder if you'd spent the extra GBP500 on the D7200, would you have not spilled the tea on your Mac?

Anyways, good luck with the D7100 -- by all accounts a very good camera.
