Question for Sydneysiders and Melbournians

February 16th, 2017
I'll be in both cities next month. I like to shoot things lit by the first and last hours of daylight, turning my back on sunrise and sunset to capture what they're shining on. I have a few ideas limited to large buildings seen on google maps and google images. I'd like comments on my ideas and suggestions for specific places within a 10 min walk where I'll be staying.

Sydney
From 200m South of Hyde Park: St Mary's at sunset and Sydney Town Hall at sunrise?

Near Stanmore Station (T2 Green line): Gleaming rail lines, shot from bridges at sunrise or sunset?

Melbourne
CBD: Parliament House at sunset, St Partick's and Royal Exhibition building at sunrise or sunset?

Thanks.

If you can get to Darling Harbour or Rocks area in Sydney at those times the light on the harbour and buildings is beautiful - lots of interesting things to photograph

Sounds like you will be staying in the Melbourne cbd, otherwise I'd suggest St Kilda for sunset.

@princessm Yes, CBD.
@annied Darling Harbour runs north south and is narrow with buildings on both sides. Seems at sunrise and sunset the harbour would be in shadow. Am I mistaken or not understanding something?

@fotoblah that may be the case - as I have been there 7.30amish in the morning and in the afternoon around 4.30pm onwards at all times of the year - I find Darling Harbour has a lot to offer.
St Mary's is beautiful and isn't directly surrounded by tall buildings.Town Hall on the other hand is right in the middle of George street but I have not been there at sunrise.

@annied Thanks for the Town Hall tip. Google street view shows many sun blocking buildings. Must of got it confused with another place.

@fotoblah when are you coming and how long do you have in Sydney

@annied Soon, and not long enough :) Seriously, in March arrive the 13th for a few days, return on the 23rd for a few more. This will be the first time traveling some where I won't need to bring Vegemite from home.

@fotoblah If you can get to Circular Quay or the Rocks area - at sunrise I think they might be great - I am not very good with sunrise so haven't been there that early though
