I’m new to 365

March 14th, 2019
Hi as the subject says I’m new to 365! And although I am starting to challenge myself with taking at least one - although it is many more, phots a day now. I am unsure how this all works. Do people just view your photos and make comments? How do you get people to look at your photos? Other than them being brilliant, which mine aren’t at the moment. My whole purpose of joining a site like this was to help me improve my photography skills and to do that I need feedback!
Ok so let me into the secrets of the site, please. I need the help!

follow other people you like and possibly they will follow back. you can search by tags if you are into a specific subject matter such as landscape or portrait or animals etc. If you are asking for some constructive criticism let people know. you can ask that on each photo. just post at the end of your description. if you want gentle criticism ask for it that way. otherwise people may or may not comment or just give a like. best of luck. I've learned a lot here...a very good project to help you improve! there are no real secrets. if you join challenges you may get your work seen a bit more as well!

Follow other people - look at the New Faces page (under Browse) and find people who are interesting, look at their photos and talk to them. You'll build up relationships with people just starting and get to know them. You can start with established people, but they are often following lots of people already and may not have time to look at more pictures.

Take part in competitions - under Discuss -> Themes and Competitions, look at Wendy's weekly list to find out more; https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/32901/march-14th-weekly-sh-t-list - and get your pictures noticed there.

the best way to get involved here is to take part in the challenges and themes, tagging your photos will help others doing the same ones to find you, one of the best is the get-pushed challenge, where we are partnered with a different person each week and give each other a challenge to complete, there is a regular feature called the thursday sh#t list which gives all the details, this week its here https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/32901/march-14th-weekly-sh-t-list

but other than that as Jackie says, follow some people and they might follow you back and get commenting :)

welcome to the site, I am sure you will enjoy yourself, this is a lovely place, I have been here for over 5 years now!

Welcome to 365! This is really THE best place to grow as a photographer. People are very willing to share what they know if you ask. You will definitely get feedback on your pictures if you find people to follow and comment on their pictures. At least that's my rule of thumb. If you take time to follow me and leave a comment or two, I will go to your pictures and do the same. The challenges are fun and stir up the creativity juices as well as viewing some of the photos of people you admire. So welcome aboard and let the picture taking begin!

As Kali said - get involved - join in with themes and challenges - find like minded photographers - have fun! I have been here for 6 years and have learned a lot and met some wonderful people.

Welcome Angela - I can't believe how much I have learned here. The best way is to start following people and get involved. I've been here a few years and this is the first year I've done themes and challenges and I'm loving them!

This was also a great way to start seeing some responses and may help you choose who to start following. This is definitely my happy place, it's a great community :)

@angel_a
Welcome!
Pretty much what they all said. But most of all enjoy your own project

Welcome, Angela
I'm the host of the Weekly So Happy It's Thursday (SH*T) list that Shanne and Kali mentioned. It comes out weekly on (you guessed it) Thursdays.Check it out and see what sparks your fancy. There is something for everyone in it.
One challenge I do recommend is the Get Pushed challenge where you will be partnered with another participating member for the week. Quite often your partner will follow you, and will comment. It is a great networking challenge.
I also recommend to just get involved like everyone says. Cruise the site (particularly the New Faces) and start commenting on those who you like. You will get more out of the site if you put time in as well.
Most important rule to remember - and it is a favourite saying around here - Your project, your rules. It's not a big deal if you do not post every day unless it is a big deal to you. It is not a big deal if you post older images unless it is a big deal to you. Remember : Your project, your rules!
Have fun and enjoy your journey with 365.

Welcome! It's a brilliant site and you will get so much support advice and friendship here. There's a link for 'People to Follow' or just randomly choose some people. As you comment on people's photos you'll find they will reciprocate. Not everyone follows everyone who follows them (does that make sense!?), many do not respond to every comment made- but they will ahve read what you wrote.

You could find people who live near you by looking the tags and type in a local landmark, town, city etc and then follow them.

Ask for help, advice ande feedback and it will come. Drop in and out as you feel you want to. I'm coming to the end of three years of uploading a pic a day, but that's my choice, and I have copied people here to improve my skills

It's your project, follow your rules and have fun!!

Welcome to 365 Angela, it is one amazing happy place to be. Had it not been for this site and all the help and support I have received, I probably would still just be taking the odd photo with my cell. A friend recommended it and now I am in my second year and hooked. Do what everyone above has recommended and you will have a great journey here :-)
