Nikon Coolpix P1000

March 24th, 2019
Have any of you used the Nikon Coolpix P1000? If you have how have you found it? With such a big zoom...was it difficult to get a sharp image? How was it in low light? I am just thinking about looking for a new camera...and trying to do some research.

Tried one and I found it slow to focus at the long length of the telephoto It is also a rather chunky camera.

@padlock thanks...i clearly need to handle one..the reviews look amazing...but I dont suppose any marketing guru will write a bad description when marketing a new camera.

I have a p900 at the moment and it's great. The focus does take a little getting used to, as does the weight! After a week or two I got the hang of using it though and can now use full zoom and keep a fairly steady hand. I've been using a p900 for ... perhaps three years now (maybe a little longer) and it's been fantastic (I'm interested in p1000 now I know they exist!

You can see photos I've taken with the p900 in my project but check in the info on the right as my more recent photos are mostly quick phone snaps as I don't have a lot of time / opportunity to use the 'big' camera at the moment.

* Just checked and I got my p900 in mid-June 2015 so photos 2015 to the end of 2018 will give you a range of example photos - http://365project.org/roachling/365/2015-06

I have had various Nikon Coolpix cameras. I have loved them all. My P610 has a 60x zoom. I can zoom in on the moon and get amazing shots of craters. The hardest thing is holding the camera steady when you are fully zoomed, but a tripod will help with that.

@padlock @homeschoolmom @roachling I have a P1000 and think its good for what is advertised. It has a fantastic zoom, but It definitely has a smaller sensor than my D850 and D810, but I got the P1000 as a simple grab and go camera. I describe it as a pair of binoculars with a good camera attached. I've only tagged two photos on 365 with P1000 but you can search for them. The re-focus button on the side is really useful especially when zoomed out to 2000 to 3000mm.
