My photos are dropping out regularly about every 5 minutes, without ever having become popular again. It's applying to older Popular photos too. Is this happening to other people's shots?
@northy it's only started recently, but is operating on old Popular photos too - do you think it's likely that Alexis would have changed his programming recently?
I know pictures come and go on the popular page and when you refresh the browser sometimes they are there and sometimes not. I'm not sure what it happening. Maybe Ross can help. @Scrivna
so i have this vague recollection that way back when Alexis created his program that identified shots that made the PP, it also told us when an image entered and dropped off the PP... then Ross changed something about the PP programming, and that part of Alexis program (the part that told us when the image entered PP, etc) no longer worked... i haven't actually checked the page Alexis set up for PP in ages... anyway... i wonder if Ross made some change to the PP that is now causing the glitch on Alexis' program...
@anniesue After seeing other discussions on mysterious view counts, I would think that the PP algorithm is being messed with via the mysterious views. I haven't been a regular poster for various reason in the past several months, but starting around May 5th, I have been getting double , and sometimes triple, digit views. And those views have been on rather random photos, which really messes with my over all stats.
@anniesue@northy@shellee@wendyfrost I had an error message that said that the process called couldn't run because of a server error that now appears to be fixed.
Hi folks, nothing has changed about the Popular Page programming for a long time, I'm not sure why Alexis service is doing what it is doing with your older photos.
The PP refreshes every few minutes, so it's very possible that your photo is near the threshold for making it, so a few times a day, depending on changing metrics is comes and goes a few times, I'd consider that to be very normal.
Apologies for the page not working correctly, a software upgrade on my server on June 11th resulted in a minor bug which hadn't previously caused any issues to turn into a major bug, preventing correct retrieval of the popular page photos.
I have fixed the issue and everything should be back up and running now, but unfortunately photos that entered the popular page between the 11th and today weren't captured by my site.
Just as a reminder, the popular page stats site, at alexisbirkill.com, is in no way affiliated with 365project and is not the responsibility of Ross. It's just something I wrote in my spare time as it seemed interesting. As such, if you do spot any issues with it, please either tag me here on the site to let me know, or e-mail me (via my website).
Thank you very much Alexis @abirkill - for looking into this now - and for providing the Popular log in the first place! I've got your details now should any glitches happen in the future ;-)
@Scrivna - Ross, thank you for your wonderful efforts in making sure our stay here on 365 project is a pleasurable experience.
@abirkill - Alexis, thank you for your prompt attention and explanation on this problem; the pp stats page is a very good and useful tool for most of us, if not all.
