SD Card Issue.

August 6th, 2022
I normally use Lexar Professional X633 SD cards with my Canon EOS R.

I have an issue with one of my SD Cards. I had been using it for some time with the camera and on Lightroom on both a Windows PC and my Macbook Pro laptop without issue.

I recently took a series of photographs and uploaded them onto my Macbook Pro with Photoshop without issue. I then replaced the SD card into my camera and got a warning message on the camera of 'No Card in Camera'. I subsequently returned it to my Macbook Pro and was able to use it normally on the laptop but on replacing it into the camera still got the message 'No Card in Camera'.

I have formatted the SD card in my laptop but still, get the same issue of the camera not recognising it whilst the Macbook accepts it and will allow me to add or process images on it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

John

A long shot, very unlikely since you were able to format the card. But, did you check that minuscule lock on the side of the card? Move it up and down once. I once had a similar issue, and that was the cause. But it is true that I did not format the card in the computer. So maybe I just talk sh*t.
Just a penny thought...

Do you have another SD card to verify that the problem is the card, not the camera?

I have one card that reads fine in my camera(s), but occasionally won't be recognized by my computer. So far, I've been able to get it to work after a couple of tries. I need to clean the contacts (use a simple pencil erasure) and see if that helps.

That was my thought Mona @monikozi . I had this happen a few weeks ago, but couldn't even download the photos onto my computer. Stop gap measure was a piece of tape over the notch were the lock is, but that didn't last too long. Replaced the SD card and now it's working again.

I have this problem with my 6D. I often get the "No card in camera" message with that one with lots of different cards but I have no problems using these same cards with other cameras or in my computer. When this happens i usually look for a SanDisk card because when my 6D is in the "No card in camera" mood, that's the only thing that works for me :-)

I'm sure it has something to do with the card reader in the camera (mis-aligned pins, some plastic bit from an old SD-card causing bad connection etc.) but since a repair would cost more than my 6D is worth I just make sure I have a few SanDisk cards around :-)

You have done the formatting directly in the camera?
Some cameras cannot read cards that have been formatted on other equipment.
If it still doesn't work, you can do full formatting on Windows or Mac (not normal formatting) then return to formatting on the camera.
Note: On the computer you must choose FULL FORMAT in FAT32
When this doesn't work, the cards can however still be useful for other uses, they don't have to be garbage.

Sometimes, taking the card out and pushing it back in clears up this issue. Sometimes cleaning the card pins will help too. I've had this issue and one of those two have always worked. I'd try the simple fix first.

i used to have the Lexar card you have and i would have the same problem with it on my Canon 80D every now and then. i only format my cards in camera. i'm using the same card series on my Nikon and Olympus and i've had no problem so it must be a Canon glitch.
