newbie help

i'm extremely new to 365 project... and thus far, i LOVE it... it's so fun to have a reason to look at the word artistically and a place to share my favorite things i see...it's also neat to have a location to document my life...

however... i don't have any followers and i'm not following anyone yet... i need to know proper ettiqute for following and how to get followers...

it seems like some people have hundreds while some have a few...
is it creepy to follow strangers? or can i follow anyone who's pictures i enjoy weather i know them or not? do they ordinarily follow back?

i really would like to take part in the interaction... but i'm not sure how to begin...
advice, anyone?

thanks!

WELCOME Ivey!

I joined this site just to hold my 365 photos after a friend suggested it, but once I discovered the following and commenting parts if this site, I was really hooked.

My suggestion to you is to make comments on photos. Many folks appreciate negative or positive feedback, but I usually just make positive ones on pictures that catch my eye. If you see someone's work that you really like, then click "follow". Their photos will appear on your 'home' page whenever they post. That way you don't have to go looking them up each time.

I have been cautious about how many people I follow because I am afraid my home page will be too full, and I have not found a way to "Un-follow" if it gets overwhelming. But you can follow as many people as you like. They may or may not follow you back. But if not, please don't be offended, everyone has their own criteria about how they choose who to follow.

It is not at all rude to follow or comment on the work of strangers, I for one LOVE comments. It is half the fun of this project.

Then people will comment on and even follow your work. Eventually, you'll get to know some of them through their photos and comments.

I know I am not alone when I say I have been making friends of perfect strangers through this site in the almost 100 days I have been at it.

So - jump on it! Good Luck!

No...it isn't creepy to follow. I found that the best place to begin was on the photographs of the day page and then I clicked on pictures I liked.... sometimes the commentary made me smile or gave useful information.... so I simply decided to follow. I like to find out a bit about those I'm following so "conversations" develop and some then become more than just pictures to view. The number of followers and those whom you follow steadily grows..... So....my advice....follow the pictures you like and the rest will happen!!

I think if you go to "Browse" and there, click on "Popular"...you'll see some wonderful photography, and I've seen pictures from both "oldsters" here and many first-day posters. I think everyone likes comments, and soon, people will reply. As much as time allows, I always try to respond to comments I receive by looking as those people's pictures and leaving a reply in return. I've made a lot of new friends! Of necessity, I've tried to keep a lid on the number of people I follow, because there, too, I like to leave comments. When there's a spot of time left (because this can become all consuming...you'll see!), I go through the list of people following me and look at their pictures if I haven't seen them already in the last few days. I'm delighted when someone new leaves a comment...let the game begin!

Welcome. I did not know how to follow at first but then I started to follow those who commented on my photos. There was also a discussion http://365project.org/discuss/general/255/soowhere-ya-from from which I followed people from different parts of the world so it could feel like I have traveled around the world without a passport.

Great suggestions Louise and Joe! I started at the suggestion of a friend and started looking at people they were looking at so I had an easy start. As for commenting: Comments are not creepy and are more than welcome here by everyone I have come across. If you see something you like, say so. If you like someone's work consistently, follow them. Easy! And welcome!!! =D
