I know, it took me 20 days, much more than needed to come up with this new challenge. My apologies to all of you, kind people, and thank you for your patience.
I wanted to choose an Italian photographer, and someone whose work I love. So I submit you the challenge to shoot a photo in the style of Mario Giacomelli, a visionary image maker whose documentary shots are full of poetry and whose bold black and white is a true signature. I am sure that the photos of the young priests playing ring around the roses (does one say so?) in the snow are known to most of you.
At the bottom of the home page there's a small picture linking to the AppStore, where an app with more than 200 images commented should be available for foreign markets: I couldn't check because it's not available in Italy, but maybe those of you abroad having an Apple device could give it a try.
However, at the very end of the home page there's a little poem, wrote by Giacomelli himself, that I think tells a lot about him and his pictures. I wish to translate it for you:
«If I only would live one day,
If I could live,
If I lived,
I will never know if it was true
I will close my eyes
And they will see me die,
There won't be before or after,
I will leave my portion
Of a closed garden of dreams
And in all places,
In all roads
They will be telling
The reverse of my life
Where death dies
…
They will never know if it was true.»

The challenge starts today, Wednesday 29 November and will run through Sunday, December 17: I promise I will shortlist the photos for your voting the following day, and the vote will take place for five days, so the winner will be given his Christmas present!!!
Only photographs taken on or between these dates will be chosen for voting by your peers. You may take a photograph that is in the photographer's style, or you may emulate a certain photograph if at all possible, or simply be inspired by his work.
You may enter more than one photo. In each case, however, as Vikki @summerfield wrote starting her challenge, I would appreciate it very much if you would include a link to the photograph(s) that inspired such photo and if you would post your entry/ies here to keep this discussion active and to inspire others. Simply click on the three dots (…) at the bottom of your photo’s narrative, copy the Embed Code and paste it on your comment here.
