Thanks to all who chose my image as winner of the Technique-91 challenge. For this challenge, it is all about the light. The technique involves using the black of the shadows in a MONOCHROME image creatively, either to emphasize the shapes or to isolate the main subject. Olaf Sztaba uses this technique, primarily in color however. This technique can result in an image with great drama and story telling capability. For ideas, here is Olaf's website:
so we have to do this in monochrome for your challenge? i think i will try in both, i have seen many examples of this from street photographers, it does make strong images... ...any tips on processing? just bump the contrast or use levels adjustment or what??
@kali66 It all depends on what mood you want to impart to the image. You can go high key and drop the blacks in curves, or go low key and isolate the subject with blacks. These are just a few ideas. I'll post examples on my feed over the next few days, will give me a goal....
@pistache It's an option to use that technique. See some of Olaf's images, he sinks the blacks and leaves only the lighted subject, surrounded by shaped blacks. There are many other ways to skin the cat. I think he processes with lots of contrast too. I like to find a shadow that create leading lines to the subject, and shoot for the brights leaving the shadows with no detail.

In one of my blog posts, there is a simple image of a worn out chair where the shadows went to black as an example. The blog post is here:

I will post some germane images I have taken over time, but they won't be considered for the challenge.
Have fun with this one, and I look forward to your wonderful work.
