B&W Photo Challenge #55

July 20th, 2020
Thanks to Sally Ings @salza for running the last round of the challenge, and thanks to everybody who voted for my "No Dumping Trash" photo. So now it's my turn to host!

As to theme, I'm challenging you all to draw inspiration from the work of the Group f/64 photographers. If you're not familiar, this was a loose group of photographers who united in their practice of using the camera to record life as it is, through unmanipulated “pure” documentation. The f/64 name referred to minimum aperture and thus maximum depth of field. These a good article at Group f/64
https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/f64/hd_f64.htm

"The camera should be used for a recording of life, for rendering the very substance and quintessence of the thing itself, whether it be polished steel or palpitating flesh. ... The group’s effort to present the camera’s “vision” as clearly as possible included advocating the use of aperture f/64 in order to provide the greatest depth of field..." The article speaks of the photographers "transcribing the exact features of what was before the camera"...

I hope that's not too obscure for people.

Start: Backdated to end of last round– Monday, July 6th
Finish: Sunday, August 9th (3 weeks from yesterday)

@kali66 f/64 referred to the smallest aperture available on the 4x5 "professional" cameras of the day. The actual f-stop setting isn't important, I'm sure you could take an appropriate photo using an iPhone (which has a fixed f-stop). the key thing, to me, is "present the camera’s vision as clearly as possible ... transcribing the exact features of what was before the camera"
