Thank you so very much to @etienne for hosting the Artist Challenge and introducing me to the work of Valerie Jardin. I enjoyed this challenge immensely and am honoured, humbled and chuffed to have had my photograph selected as the winning Story of Hands entry.
So on to the next artist to inspire our photography. I have chosen the work of the British fine art photographer Jonathan Chritchley.
Please don't let the fact he only makes huge prints in square forma,t in black and white and that he loves photographing million pound Camargue horses, Icelandic ponies, waves and parts of boats to make abstract forms that he often places off centre to the right, put you off!
I look forward to your images inspired by Chritchley's style. More details on the artistry of sume-i is available on line, I liked this site https://www.sumi-e.it/en/what-is-sumi-e/ but horses, boats, trees, leaves, hills and water are all there to be captured in his style.
Your entries need to be taken by you within the challenge dates and tagged ac-chritchley
Starting Date March 3rd
End date April 7 ( so those doing Rainbow month can participate!)
Please not, we should be able to fit in. I guess we can take the photos from now on and load up in April. I already feel the challenge period is too long, as this is my favorite challenge.
I need your advice please. Jonathan Chritchley has accepted my invitation to take part in the "judging" process. He's most impressed with entries to date and I've assured him more will be entered over the month!!
Should I invite him to
A/ select his over all winner and commendations
OR
B/ invite him to select a shortlist and 365 community does the voting??
Please put your choice (A or B) in the thread below. Thank you 🎈
In 2016 I hosted the Jane Bennett artist challenged and she became involved with the voting - I can't remember whether she picked finalists or winner though - whatever you or Jonathon are happy with I am sure would be fine :) It is exciting to have the artist involved :)
How wonderful that he is interested in being involved I would go with B although I do think that Kali's idea @kali66 is a very good idea. Are you happy not having your say re your favourites depicting his work?
@salza Oh yes, abdication of that responsibility fine with me Sally!! @grammyn a good point well made, thank you Katy @ljmanning I'll go find your entry Laura, and thank you for your choice @kali66 Thanks Kali, perhaps selecting his top five for us to vote and ill ask him which he likes the most and inform the photographer??! @wakelys thanks Sue for that @annied I've seen the named artist used before in voting before (perhaps your challenge) which is why I invited him and then thought not everyone will approve!
Thank you all, so far it consensus is let the 365 community choose the winner from his shortlist. J
i lean more towards option B. there was one time the artist/photographer was asked to judge the entries and he (or maybe she) chose the winner. although the one he/she chose was good, there were quite a few entries that i thought also deserved to win. art is subjective after all so let the members at large vote for the winner. that way, there are more to get the spotlight, not just one entry.
I agree with either options... It's up to you as you host this challenge...Anyway, If the artist is interested on this challenge, let him to participate ;)
@annied oh lovely thank yu
Good day lovely photographers, thank you for your entries, and to @cristinaledesma33 @jborrases @keramin @ljmanning @yaorenliu @nickspicsnz for showing an interest in this challenge.
