Thankyou to John Walton @lumpiniman for instigating this challenge. I am very proud to have won the inaugural challenge and thank everyone who participated and voted.
From John's initial description of the challenge:
Statues, memorials and sculptures are all forms of street art, that, in most instances, have a long history. While they may be considered a traditional art form, they serve as important symbols of heritage and cultural identity worldwide. Some blend into the style of the surrounding environment, while elsewhere there is a stark contrast with the background setting. Most will be located outdoors, although many may be found in buildings such as churches, temples, or museums.
Synonyms for statues or memorials include:
Monument
Sculpture
Effigy
Tribute
Commemorative stone or statue
Cenotaph
Bust
Marker
Memorial stone
The objective of this challenge is to capture an image of a statue, memorial, or sculpture in isolation or as part of an overall scene.
Start date: 19th January 2025 (back dated to the end of the previous challenge)
Finish date: 28th February 2025 (unashamedly to suit my ability to round off the challenge)
