I have been asked to oversee the next round of the Artist Challenge since I was voted runner-up and our winner is unable to run this round. My thanks to Kali @kali66 for keeping track of the tally and for reaching out and asking me to take the reins. I liked her return to the “original intent” of this challenge in the last round- that is finding a creative way to imitate one of the masters in the art world by copying their style with your camera and imitating their style in the photograph you take and how you process it. And with that in mind, I decided to feature the beautiful landscapes of John Constable.
John Constable, (June 11, 1776 – March 31, 1837) was an English Romantic painter. Born in Suffolk, he is known principally for his landscape paintings of Dedham Vale, the area surrounding his home — now known as "Constable Country" — which he invested with an intensity of affection. "I should paint my own places best", he wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821, "painting is but another word for feeling".
He also painted many portraits and cathedrals (architecture), so if your preference lies in that kind of picture, you are welcome to approach the challenge from that route. I focused on landscape because many of us are at opposite ends of the seasonal spectrum right now- some enjoy the cooler days of Fall and others enjoying the fresh breezes of Spring. Both seasons can offer up some pretty dramatic clouds or colors, but don’t forget subdued earth tones or monochromatic greens work too. The creative control on how much of Constable to copy or imitate is up to you.
Some of you will actually be able to visit the very spots Constable painted. But what is most important in my mind is to follow the artist’s admonishment and “paint our own places best.” Let your camera and/or processing skills take that to heart for this challenge!
This challenge will run from April 27, 2025 to May 27, 2025.

@kali66 I was drawn to them and thought they would be appealing to a lot of our photographers here. Glad you like my choice- I thought it would be a good follow up to Bonnard.
