First of all, THANK YOU for selecting my image for the Ansel Adams challenge! And big congrats to all of the finalists--each image was just sooooo good, the voting was close, and I feel super lucky and humbled.
Second of all, I am in no way a portrait photographer, but I do greatly admire those who can capture the essense of their "models" so uniquely as YOUSEF KARSH. Rather than get into too much detail here about this amazing photographer, I will direct you to this link: http://www.karsh.org
Karsh's portfolio is incredibly intimate and often very candid even in a "formal" setting. He is also famous for lighting his subject's hands seperately as he believed they spoke volumes about a person's true nature.
With so many wonderfulfully talented 365-ers, I can't wait to see the entries!
~ challenge starts Monday December 12 and ends Sunday December 18
~ I'll pick my final 5 and voting will start on the 20th
~ all 365ers can vote for their favorite

Oh, wonderful choice. Looking over some of his work just now, I'm amazed at how many of his portraits I'm already familiar with. I'm looking forward to delving into this one.
Jenn, great choice! After looking through his portraits, I see why you chose him! Can you imagine having the opportunity to photograph some of these people.....and he did it so beautifully.
Fantastic choice of artist. I love his portraits and look forward to seeing the entries. I'll have to think about how/if I can get a photo worth entering.
I'm back already! This challenge has really excited me on an uninspired day. I know Karshs talent was to capture the personality of a person in an image but I have no willing models right now other than my kitten Autumn.
I can only hope Karsh wouldn't feel too upset that I have tried to take his portrait style and give it a feline twist.
Ok, so just to be clear, I've never done an artist challenge before. Do people do exact replicas of that artist's pictures, or just photos in their style? What is better in your opinion?
Wowsa! What an impressive list of models this guy has! He certainly rivals Annie Leibovitz in that regard. Thanks for choosing such an accomplished and interesting artist! I'm really looking forward to my first challenge!
i just want to share this from sergey ,( @parohodov) a very nice photo inspired by Yousef Karsh (for me) .
