How would you edit this shot?

August 3rd, 2019
Good afternoon!!
I took a shot yesterday that I love because of the mood, but it's a piece of s**t talking about quality and detail. I was doing other thing when suddenly the baby put her head over my girls head, looking so Damm cute :D
But I'm struggling to edit it properly to give a nice mood the image. How would you do it? I'm posting here a link to download the original shot and my edit.
Thanks in advance!!!

I'm no edit expert! And some clever people might suggest removing some of the background distractions? (but i don't have a talent for that!)
I'd tend to edit as black and white or give it a vintage tone?

This image would be hard to make it better through editing. Too much DoF, no eyes to grab the viewers attention, and too many in focus distracting elements in the background. I am sorry, but this image is not that good.

i gave it a go... there is definitely a nice overall feel to the composition... i used a soft sepia filter in silver fx as suggested by @brigette ... and blurred out the background in PS... i couldn't download the image from your link so downloaded from your project page... i'm not really happy with how the hand turned out, but that might be fixable with some fiddling...

I think this image has great sentimental value to you but because you really can't see the lower person's profile and the distracting backgroud, it's got some weak spots. But you are right- the child snuggling into the hair is very cute so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm not crazy about the outcome, but was satisfied enough to post it here for you.

@northy @olivetreeann
Ladies, you both did an awesome job creating the mood required from this shot.
You have more creative abilities in your little finger than I could ever hope to have!
Maybe someday I could do things like this .........

@farmreporter Thank you Wendy- but you do yourself a discredit. You have your own kind of creativity- everyone does!

@olivetreeann well done

@chapjohn I completely agree John, I have some shots showing her faces but as I'm not the dad of the baby, I can't legally show her. So as an alternative I took this one on the side, and again, I completely agree, is a really bad shot as I did it fast, without paying attention to the focus, neither details. But I was searching for some inspiration :) Thanks anyway!
@northy thanks a lot for the idea!! I thought also about blurring the background as an idea
@olivetreeann yes, it does have lot of weak points, I completely agree about that, and isn't a shot that I would post but I felt it was too cute to not be used for that day, even being a horrible shot haha Feelings, Damm feelings :P Thanks a lot for your edit, isolating then works to at least give a bit of attention
@farmreporter I'm pretty sure that you can create awesome edits also :D

@petaqui You're not alone- with 6 grandchildren I have plenty of sentimental shots that I've kept for the same reason. I really did like the snuggle- very sweet gesture. I would have kept it too!

i might be in a minority here, but i actually think there is something quite poignant about this capture... the challenge with the raw image is, i think, to get the focus on the child's face... particularly those eyelashes...

@olivetreeann @petaqui @chapjohn

@farmreporter do not disparage your skill and creativity! everybody's eye is different and that's what makes this such a wonderful community!

@petaqu Thought I'd try an edit, so here's mine using Picasa.

and with a second vignette, since I retouched the first image after adding one

@genealogygenie I really like the second one...

@northy I would agree with you on that point- that's what I thought was sweet about it- but I do miss seeing a little more of the "holder's" face- that's just me.

@genealogygenie Great edits! I had attempted something like this but came no where near how nicely you did it!

@petaqui I enjoyed having a go at softening the background of this shot but couldn't soften the silver car without affecting the child's face. I have minimal skills on an old photoshop programme so I had a "How to" book in one hand.......!!

@northy @olivetreeann Thanks for your comments. It's fun to see the different edits!

@genealogygenie I agree with @northy and @olivetreeann re the second version. Very effective edit. But I like the first one for correcting or minimizing the distracting distortion on the buildings in the background. I wonder if there is a way to minimize distortion but maintain the level of blur of image 2?

@taffy Thanks for your comments. I used a soft focus on his face and then did some retouching. Unfortunately, I was in decluttering mode yesterday since my school year starts Wednesday and I deleted the images so I could focus on things I should be doing!

Thank you all for yout tips and edits!!

@olivetreeann I'm not that kid of person but this day I got a bit sentimental hahaha the power of a shot
@northy Thanks for your notes!! Really appreciate them :D
