Moke Lake

Last night we were sitting in the Wine Bar in Queenstown when a friend rang to say they had heard there could be an aurora and did I want to head out. Of course I said YES. So I quickly googled how to photograph the southern lights!
We headed out to Moke Lake which is near Queenstown. I got quite a few photos I was really happy with, especially liking the reflection of the lights in the lake. However, I decided to post this one because it is showing the Milky Way as well as the aurora. It was such fun, I really loved it!
beautiful, you were in the same neck of the woods as Dianne

This is gorgeous! And, you mention Queenstown....I would say that area is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Mt. Cook, the sheep/lamb farm, beautiful lake. It was years ago but I imagine it is still as clean and beautiful?

@julzmaioro There were so many amazing shots of the aurora from over a lot of New Zealand - I was so delighted to be able to capture a bit of it. It was a shame that Sunday night was no good here in Queenstown because of cloud in the wrong place, but Saturday night was fabulous - I felt so lucky.

That is awesome, and such a great job for your first time capturing it. My friends friend took a photo the same night in Queenstown. Here is a link to her shot (hopefully it works!) https://www.facebook.com/ktphotographynz/photos/a.1620047174960827.1073741828.1619832074982337/1699140020384875/?type=3&theater

@kiwichick Thanks Lesley - that is a fabulous photo of Kirsty's. It would have been marvellous to have captured the light beams as she has! I can see why people can get hooked on chasing auroras!!
