Last night we were sitting in the Wine Bar in Queenstown when a friend rang to say they had heard there could be an aurora and did I want to head out. Of course I said YES. So I quickly googled how to photograph the southern lights!
We headed out to Moke Lake which is near Queenstown. I got quite a few photos I was really happy with, especially liking the reflection of the lights in the lake. However, I decided to post this one because it is showing the Milky Way as well as the aurora. It was such fun, I really loved it!
This is gorgeous! And, you mention Queenstown....I would say that area is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Mt. Cook, the sheep/lamb farm, beautiful lake. It was years ago but I imagine it is still as clean and beautiful?
Absolutely brilliant shot, Delwyn! What an amazing combination with the Milky Way and Aurora both together. @jyokota -- thanks for tagging me so I could see this! Would LOVE to see this in person some day!
@paul10 Thanks Paul - I was delighted at how it turned out. I have been wanting to try a Milky Way shot for ages and it was a bonus to have the aurora there too!
@julzmaioro There were so many amazing shots of the aurora from over a lot of New Zealand - I was so delighted to be able to capture a bit of it. It was a shame that Sunday night was no good here in Queenstown because of cloud in the wrong place, but Saturday night was fabulous - I felt so lucky.
@kiwichick Thanks Lesley - that is a fabulous photo of Kirsty's. It would have been marvellous to have captured the light beams as she has! I can see why people can get hooked on chasing auroras!!
@lizzitinfish I love to travel overseas and see some amazing places, then come home and think this is just fabulous! We are very lucky here in New Zealand.
