Circus of Kea by dkbarnett

Circus of Kea

Two days ago I visited Moke Lake again as I wanted to see it in the daylight. This was the same place I took the photo of the aurora and Milky Way. I spent a wonderful couple of hours there. The lake was beautiful and the reflections were amazing. However, the really magic part was seeing a group of seven Kea. Later I researched what a group of Kea were called and it was a 'circus'. Such a great name and so appropriate for Kea as they are such cheeky and comical birds. As you can imagine I had a huge number of photos and choosing just one or two is very difficult. I chose this one because it shows the beautiful orange under their wings. I had to crop this in quite a bit though as at this point they were a wee distance away. They aren't scared of and are even curious about people and at one point were really close - even trying to chew my boots!
great capture of these colourful birds
