petrified!

... but not as in scared. The reason I visited East Waitara Beach was to find the petrified forest on the Airedale Reef. The tide was right on Wednesday morning, so the dogs and I went for a walk. I was really impressed by these 100,000 year old trees. They were felled by a volcanic mud slide, then preserved in peat.
