Good-Old-Timer

I recently discovered a "Beetle club" close to my place. Outside their door is this little old saloon car made by VolksWagen in the sixties, I guess. I went back with the Spotmatic and the Takumar 28. I dare say they performed great.
What a great find and a perfect subject for the Spotmatic and the Takumar 28.

I don't remember these and I thought I knew most cars from that era - perhaps they weren't imported into Britain... glad to see it here.

There's a few of these floating around my town - I've always liked them and thought that they would look fabulous with me and Mrs S inside, along with a couple of greyhounds in the back

Squarebacks, I think but I remember them. True classic.

Great to see an old-timer like this in such good condition. Somebody's baby.

@deborah63 same age, in fact! Thank you!
@vignouse they called it Type 3 or Squareback in the USA. It was supposed to substitute the beetle....Mission: impossible!
@graemestevens in fact! Only downturn their 1,5 liters motor was fuel consuming like a 3,0...
@joysabin yes. Squareback... cool you knew!
@golftragic yes, I guess so...
@bkbinthecity thank you!
@kwind thank you, Kim!

We live close to Beaulieu Motor Museum and this is the sort of thing we'll suddenly see a whole bunch of when they've had VW rally or some such event. They always look so insubstantial to my eyes now - though I do love the lines and the narrow pillars.

@humphreyhippo Thank you. Yes, it's all about the lines: driving one of these you don't feel very protected...

This reminds me of my dark orange Volkswagen Squareback from 1970. Before it, we had a blue Volkswagen Fastback but it was stick and my dad lost his patience trying to give me a driving lesson in it. The next day, he traded it in for an automatic, thank goodness! :)

@gardenfolk This is orange (on the sides) and beige (on the bonnet and roof). Cool design, though! Thanks for commenting!

Vintage car and vintage camera .. perfect pairing. I remember that VW model but can't recall its name. The Pentax I still have and use.. I just love the feel, weight and heft of it. And that light meter switch on the side that you must remember to activate with each shot. I still forget almost every time! The later K1000 dispensed with it.. it was activated simply by removing the lens cap. Possibly an improvement but less endearing!

@yrhenwr Oh I do so agree. I received it as a present and it was love at first sight. The camera, the lenses, all so clean and worthy. I am having the meter fixed by my trusted repairman. He is a very handy one, very accurate, and very experienced. Today he was explaining the remembers exactly the day he made his first repair: he was 11 and while closing the body of the camera he heard two explosions. He thought they were firecrackers and didn't pay much attention. Instead, they were the bombs the partisans had put in Via Rasella, Rome, on 23 March 1944 - those causing the terrible retaliation of the Fosse Ardeatine... I was rather astonished.
